MtG Decklist - Spice8Rack's Omo | Extra Turns #61

I just watched episode #61 of Extra Turns, and I absolutely loved this deck! When I originally started playing Magic the Gathering, I loved the artwork for Vesuvan Doppelganger by artist Quinton Hoover. In fact, I love all of Hoover's art. (I didn't realize until writing this that Hoover died in 2013.)

Above all the other cards, I appreciated the doppelganger's ability to shapeshift and I think that really drew me into enjoying Omo, Queen of Vesuva and the cards abilities.

As I watched the episode, I really got to see Omo work her magic. While Spice8Rack ultimately didn't win (sorry for the spoiler), I felt like the decks mechanics really matched the type of game I enjoy playing. I'm looking forward to building this deck and eventually playing with my friends. If you try this deck out, please let me know how you enjoyed it.

MtG Decklist - Chatterfang, Squirrel General

One of the first decks that my friend created was a squirrel deck. It was for a 60 card format, but it was lethal. Since she created hers, she has made modifications and also helped me to create one of my own. This is the next evolutionary step from 60 card deck to a commander deck.

Originally I had purchased the Chatterfang commander deck from Moonveil Games. It was good enough as it was, but I felt like it needed more. The lethality of this deck is being able to make so many squirrel tokens. In a recent game, I found that there were a couple of infinite loops when generating tokens. Since I play with friends and we are not CEDH players, I made sure my friends were aware of the loop and kept the process to a single interaction of tokens.

Parallel Lives and Doubling Seasons were the main ingredients that I needed to add to make the token generation aspect work effectively. In the afore mentioned game, I had so many squirrel tokens on the battlefield, but it didn't feel like it was enough to be able to win because my opponents not only had higher life totals, but also had bigger blockers to my 1/1 tokens. That all changed when I pulled Preposterous Proportions.

MtG Decklist - Erebos, God of the Dead

I remember playing a game one time and casting Whip of Erebos and thinking what a wonderful card. I ended up doing some research on the character of Erebos and worked on designing a commander deck around him. Here we have the product of that work.

MtG Decklist - Tiamat

Tiamat has always been one of my favorite characters from Dungeons & Dragons. Ever since the cartoon from the 80's, I have been a fan of the 5-headed mother of dragons.

In 2015, there was a woman who had an incredible Tiamat costume at a local event I was attending. It's no surprise that she won the cosplay contest.

This deck is one of my favorite commander decks that I have in my collection.

MtG Decklist - Arabella (Hare Apparent)

Duskmorn gave us Arabella and Foundations gave us Hare Apparent. Combine them both in this interesting deck.

MtG Decklist - Arcades Thiccy Walls

I found this on YouTube as a Deck Tech from user Poppmagic and thought it was an interesting build. Always enjoyed the original Elder Dragons and a Wall deck has always had my interest.

MtG Decklist - Sauron, Lord of the Rings

I have been a fan of the Lord of the Rings series since I was a kid, so when Magic released the LotR set, I had to create a deck around it. I tried to stay with cards that were primarily sourced from the set, or were related to the theme... but we ended-up taking some liberties in the final cut.

As with most of my constructed MtG decks, this was a collaboration with my ex-wife.

MtG Decklist: Angels

When I was originally playing Magic the Gathering, one of my favorite cards was Serra Angel. Over the years, angels have expanded quite a bit and there are so many options available.

As you can guess, lifegain is just one of the major components of this particular deck. As of writing this, I had a recent game session where I played against another angel deck, and this is a screenshot of my lifetracker when the game ended.

In this specific game, I had the following card combination on my battlefield:

Brisela had several +1/+1 counters on it due to a level 3 Cleric Class that was also on my battlefield since early in the game. When Brisela was transformed, I exiled The Book of Exalted Dead to add the enlightened counter on it. Then I cast Aegis Angel and chose Brisela to be indestructible.

At the last few turns of the game, Brisela was doing 43 points of damage per attack. This has been the most monstrous combination I think I have ever played.

As with most of my constructed decks, it would not have been possible without the help of my ex-wife. While I pull a bunch of cards that I feel work with the concept for the deck, she helps to pair everything down into a manageable 60 card deck.

MtG Decklist: D&D (Dwarves & Dragons)

One of my favorite characters/creatures from Dungeons & Dragons is Tiamat and when Wizards of the Coast first announce they were going to publish a card based on her, I had to have it. Even more, I had to have a deck with her in it. This was before I started to play the Commander/EDH format.

I don't remember where I got the idea for running a primarily Dwarf tribal deck, but when Kaldheim was released, I pulled a couple of copies of Magda, Brazen Outlaw in the boxes I purchased. Her ability to not only generate treasure tokens but also cheat-out Dragons got my attention.

The other Dragons in this decklist are in there from my personal preference at the time I created the deck. There are only 5 other Dragons in addition to Tiamat so I can pull them with her ETB effect if I am actually able to cast her from my hand.

YouTube Recommendation - Magic Arcanum

When Wizards of the Coast originally announced that they were going to start producing cards based from the world of Dungeons and Dragons, I was drawn back to buying, collecting and playing Magic the Gathering again.

I originally started playing around 1994 when The Dark expansion was originally released. Since then, I stopped collecting/playing a few times and sold my collection. The last time I purchased any cards was between 2010 - 2012 when it was suggested I try to get back into playing with some pre-constructed decks. I never actually got a chance to play, so I sold those cards.

I knew there was a deeper story to Magic, but had never really read into it before. I used to collect the early comic books, but that was primarily because they came with cards and I thought they were going to be more than just simple common cards. I was wrong, and I never actually read any of the comics.

Then, a few years ago, I came across the Magic Arcanum channel, and this got me interested into the stories of each set. Thus far, I have enjoyed learning about the various stories and have even gotten interested in watching the videos where they rank cards throughout the history of Magic.

MtG Decklist - Fatal Furries

I originally started playing Magic the Gathering in 1994, and have been in and out of playing/collecting several times. When Wizards of the Coast originally announced that they were going to start producing cards based from the world of Dungeons and Dragons, I was drawn back to buying, collecting and playing Magic the Gathering again.

This time, I brought my roommates into the habit as well, and we found that my ex-wife actually had a talent for deck construction. She has built a number of decks that are competitive; at least in our social circle.

One of her decks was a tribal squirrel deck that had a knack of generating a huge amount of squirrel tokens. With that in mind, we collaborated on a squirrel deck for myself that I affectionately call Fatal Furries.

If you take a look at the decklist, you can tell that I don't typically prescribe to following a specific format since I originally learned how to play Magic before there were formats. Also, I do also run this deck with a couple of proxies for high value cards. I will admit that the Mox Emerald is in there as a flex mana rock and you are more than welcome to take it out for something else to your liking.

Thank you for 16 years!

Recently I did something that I don't typically do... I took a look at the actual stats for my blog. When I have submitted my applicatio...
